In Odessa, the city with strong historic and commercial bonds with Greece, the Ukrainian Marine Environment Protection Association – UKRMEPA was established on Monday, 17 December 2007.
HELMEPA CELEBRATES IT`S 25 YEARS
On the 1st of June, 2007 a two-day Conference “Practice of maritime business: sharing experience 2007” finished its work. It was held in Odessa, Ukraine at the conference hall of the hotel “Odessa”. The Conference gathered about 150 participants from 13 countries: representatives of shipping, insurance, survey companies, law firms, ports and terminals, specialized mass media etc. The main topics of the Conference were “Models of port management and investments” and “Maritime claims and their settlement”.

April the 5th this year a «Round Table - Maritime Journal in the XXI century» was arranged by the Nautical Institute of Ukraine (NIU) in the Conference Hall of the Branch of Russian Maritime Register to commemorate the 5th Anniversary of the International Maritime Journal «Sea Review» published by NIU and the 80th birthday of the late professor V.M. Zalyotov, who more than a quarter of a century headed educational establishment (OHEMS and OSMA) and was one of the initiators of the NIU.

Recently in short while history of Nautical institute of Ukraine (NIU) there was the appreciable event testifying to the big attention to our branch on the part of a management of Nautical institute: in Odessa during June, 4-8, 2004 with visit there was president of Nautical institute Mr. Phil Anderson.
On November 21, 2003 on the basis of the ONMA the scientific conference organized by Nautical Institute of Ukraine (Ukrainian Branch of the Nautical Institute), - «ISPS Code. Requirements. Training and Certification» has taken place.

In the old building of The Odessa Sea Port Club at the Lanjeronovskaya str. where The Mission to Seafarers- the well known Christian international welfare organization among the marine circles - has its place now, having the domestic Chapel inside.

The Odessa National Maritime Academy (ONMA) hosted the Seminar on "National doctrine on development of maritime education in Ukraine".
Lately the State Maritime Academy in Odessa has been granted the status of National by the edict of the President of Ukraine. This act is the result of the recognition, on the part of the State, of the great contribution made by the Academy to the education and training qualified and competent specialists for the National Merchant Fleet. As well as for the world shipping industry.
