In the evening of Friday 10th April, the Seatrade organization, celebrating 25 successful years of the annual awards’ scheme, presented the 2013 awards to personalities, companies and organizations of world shipping. The Awards Ceremony and Dinner took place at the historic Guildhall in London, in the presence of hundreds of representatives from the shipping community. Master of Ceremony was the well known journalist and presenter of BBC’s “Hard Talk” programme, Stephen Sackur, the humour of whom was well received by participants.
Earlier on the same day, the Awards’ Panel of Judges convened chaired by Mr. Koji Sekimizu, IMO Secretary General and always consisting of the Chairpersons and Directors of 10 maritime organizations, including Dr.J.Coustas and Mr.D.C.Mitsatsos of HELMEPA. The Judges selected the best entry in each of the following categories: Safety at Sea, Clean Shipping, Innovation in Ship Operations and Investment in People.
The awards were presented by the IMO Secretary General to the following:
– Safety at Sea: Mr. Noboru Ueda, Chairman and President of ClassNK
– Clean Shipping: Mr. David Edwards, President and COO of WR Systems Ltd
– Innovation in Ship Operations: Mr. Steven Wardenier, Commercial Director of Lankhorst Ropes and
– Investment in People: Mr. Nigel Palmer, OBE, Chairman of Maritime Skills Alliance (MSA).
Besides the above, Seatrade honoured personalities and companies from international shipping for their contribution to the development of the shipping industry.
